About this course:

Create your own resin/wood chopping board that you can either proudly display in your own home, gift to friends or family, or turn into a business and sell.

My name is Nikos, the creator, and craftsman at •Against the Grain• based on the outskirts of Birmingham.
I bring together wood and resin in order to create unique bespoke furniture. The character and warmth of the wood mixed with resin, whether it be transparent or metallic in colour, can breathe life into furniture around homes and workplaces. I work together with my customers to make sure that what they want is achieved for them, down to the smallest detail. I specialise in canapé boards, chopping boards, serving boards, coffee tables, and longboards. But the variety the art of resin and wood can offer is limitless. Although all my pieces are one of a kind, I can offer more than one of each design. Please note that due to the handmade nature and variations of wood and resin, each product may be diffrent.

Growing up I have always been fascinated with wood and bright colours. And one day when I stumbled across my first resin and wood art piece I decided to dedicate all the time I could to self teach - which I have now developed into my full time job. I believe in everything I have always done, I have always ‘gone against the grain’....and pushed to be different, and that’s where the company got its title.

I'm excited to now share my passion for wood/resin art and help others unleash their potential in this field too.

Wood/Resin Chopping Board

Previous experience with working with wood or resin would be beneficial. Although a beginner could do this course, a lot of tools are required for the process and so they need to be certain that wood work is for them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What tools do you need to start with wood and resin?

This course does require quite a lot of tools. A full list of the tools needed can be found in the introduction section of the course in a handy to print off PDF.

Can you start if you have no experience working with wood?

You can complete this course even if you are new to working with wood. Everything in the course is designed so that even beginners could create this project. However some of the tools that may make your life easier for this course may need to be looked into how to use safely and effectively.

After this course will I be able to go onto make larger things like Resin Tables?

Although this course shows you how to make a wood/resin chopping board, the principles are the same for creating larger projects like Resin Tables. We will have a specific course for creating wood/resin tables further down the line though, so watch this space for that to launch.

Do I need to make these in a workshop, or can I make them at home?

You don't need to have a workshop to create this project, however you will need an area that you don't mind getting wood chippings and dust in. Somewhere like a shed or a garage would work well for projetcs like this.
